Green Building Initiative und Global Electronics Council schließen sich zusammen, um die allgemeine Energieeffizienz von Gebäuden zu verbessern

PORTLAND, Oregon, Oct. 29, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Die Green Building Initiative (GBI) hat bekannt gegeben, dass das Umweltzeichen EPEAT^® des Global Electronics Council (GEC) zukünftig als zusätzliches Kriterium für die Bewertung der Nachhaltigkeit und Effizienz von Produkten im Rahmen der Zertifizierungen GBI Ascent^™ und Green Globes^® dient. Die Green Globes– und Ascent–Zertifizierungen von GBI sind auf Branchenstandards ausgerichtet und bieten mehrere Konformitätspfade, sodass Nachhaltigkeitszertifizierungen für eine breite Palette von Gebäudetypen leichter zugänglich sind. Die Integration von EPEAT erhöht die Flexibilität und Verantwortlichkeit der Benutzer von Green Globes und Ascent und trägt so zur Risikominderung bei und erzielt gleichzeitig messbare Ergebnisse. Gemeinsam rüsten GBI und GEC Projektteams aus, um tiefere, messbare Nachhaltigkeitseffekte zu erzielen.

Bis heute wurden in 18 US–Bundesstaaten und Kanada Rechenzentren mit einer Fläche von über 2,3 Millionen Quadratmeter zertifiziert oder streben eine Green Globes– oder Ascent–Zertifizierung an. Das unterstreicht das Ausmaß und die Auswirkungen nachhaltiger Entscheidungen in diesem schnell wachsenden Sektor. EPEAT–registrierte Bürogeräte, darunter Computer und Bildgebungsgeräte, können jetzt auch verwendet werden, um die Nachhaltigkeitskriterien von GBI auf Produktebene in anderen gebauten Umgebungen zu erfüllen.

Heute entfallen etwa 1,5 % des weltweiten Stromverbrauchs auf Rechenzentren, die für die Stromversorgung der IKT–Ausrüstung und der dazugehörigen Kühlstrategien verwendet werden. Prognosen zufolge wird sich diese Zahl bis 2030 verdoppeln. GEC bietet in seinen Produktkategorien EPEAT–registrierte Server sowie Solarmodule und Wechselrichter an und bietet damit eine Standardisierungs– und Vergleichsmethode auf dem Markt. In Kürze wird auch EPEAT–registrierte Netzwerkausrüstung erwartet. EPEAT–registrierte Datenspeichergeräte werden voraussichtlich im Geschäftsjahr 2027 verfügbar sein. Durch die Anerkennung von EPEAT–registrierten Produkten in Rechenzentren wird die Leistung von Rechenzentren weiter verbessert. Bei EPEAT registrierte Produkte werden außerdem von Dritten überprüft, ob sie Kriterien erfüllen, die den Klimaschutz im IKT–Herstellungsprozess beschleunigen und die Kreislaufwirtschaft, die Verwendung sichererer Chemikalien und verantwortungsvolle Lieferketten fördern. EPEAT–registrierte Büroprodukte können jetzt auch dazu verwendet werden, die Green Globes– und Ascent–Kriterienanforderungen von GBI zu erfüllen.

PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 28, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Green Building Initiative (GBI) has announced that the Global Electronics Council’s (GEC) EPEAT^® ecolabel will serve as an additional pathway for evaluating the sustainability and efficiency of products within GBI Ascent^™ and Green Globes^® certifications. This alignment strengthens the connection between product–level sustainability and building–level performance, enabling more holistic evaluation of energy efficiency across the built environment.

Today, data centers account for roughly 1.5% of global electricity consumption used to power data center ICT equipment and accompanying cooling strategies. This figure is predicted to double by 2030. GEC offers EPEAT registered Servers and Solar Panels and Inverters among its product categories, providing a method of standardization and comparison among the market, and EPEAT registered Network Equipment is expected soon. EPEAT registered data storage equipment is expected to be available in FY27. Recognizing EPEAT registered products in data centers will continue to improve data center performance. EPEAT registered products are also third party verified as meeting criteria which catalyze climate change mitigation in the ICT manufacturing process and advance circularity, use of safer chemicals, and responsible supply chains.
