Egg Medical Declares New Era in Fluoroscopy Lab Safety Following Joint Consensus Statement

MINNEAPOLIS, July 22, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Egg Medical, a global leader in radiation protection, announced its alignment with the landmark expert consensus statement published in JSCAI. This historic document declares that traditional reliance on heavy lead aprons is no longer an acceptable standard, calling for urgent changes to protect clinical staff. Earlier this year, SCAI launched its ALARA+ initiative to update the interpretations of federal ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) regulations. With modern ERPDs, what is considered reasonable must evolve.

“For decades, the interventional community has accepted the risks of cancer, cataracts and orthopedic injury as inevitable consequences of an interventional career. I, like many others, paid the toll for wearing heavy, protective lead aprons over the years. These very real and dangerous risks must no longer be ignored,” said Dr. Dean Kereiakes, co-author of the consensus statement and Chairman of The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute. “This multi-society consensus statement presents a mandate that with the availability of ERPDs such as EggNest Complete, workplace safety is no longer an option, but instead, a moral imperative going forward.”

EggNest Complete 360 Degree Team Wide Safety Solutions
The EggNest Complete, is designed specifically to overcome these traditional barriers:

  • 360 Degree Protection: The system provides integrated 360-degree protection around the table, safeguarding everyone.
  • Zero Workflow Disruption: It integrates directly into the existing table, eliminating floor clutter, and tripping hazards common with rolling shields.
  • Eliminates Construction: EggNest Complete requires no ceiling construction or lab downtime, something unique to Egg Medical. Labs remain fully operational, deploying safety without any clinical interruption and saving the hospital money.
  • Apron-Free Options: EggNest data supports the use of no lead aprons or ultralight lead aprons, depending on the clinician’s personal choice.

Egg Medical delivers a solution that meets ALARA+ standards, helping hospitals protect their most valuable assets—their people.

Egg Medical Launches EggNest™ Complete Flex: Apron-Free Protection Without Construction, Downtime or Disruption

MINNEAPOLIS, April 06, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Egg Medical announces the launch of EggNest™ Complete Flex, a groundbreaking advancement in radiation protection that enables clinicians to safely work apron-free or with ultralight lead aprons—without the need for construction, structural modifications or procedural downtime.

The first live case with Complete Flex will be performed by Dr. Jasvindar Singh at Barnes-Jewish Hospital on Wednesday, April 8th at 9:35 a.m. CST as a part of the ARCH 2026 meeting.

“We are excited to be the first to use this novel technology in a live case and believe it is important to adopt solutions that protect everyone,” said Dr. Jasvindar Singh, Section Chief of Interventional & Structural Cardiology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Chairman of ARCH Consortium.

“ARCH continues to innovate and remains on the cutting-edge of new technology,” said Dr. George Chrysant, Course Director of ARCH and Chief Medical Officer of Integris Cardiovascular Physicians.  “I’ve used the EggNest Complete for a year and am convinced that Enhanced Radiation Protection Devices (ERPDs) should no longer be an option when the welfare of the team is at stake.”

Unlike other ceiling-mounted radiation shielding systems that require extensive construction and room downtime, EggNest Complete Flex sets a new standard in radiation protection:

  • Construction-Free: No structural changes, permitting or installation delays.
  • Zero Downtime: Labs remain operational during installation, preserving millions in potential revenue.
  • Cost-Saving: Eliminates renovation costs associated with other built-in shielding solutions.
  • Clinician-Friendly: Enables apron-free workflows or the use of ultralight lead, reducing orthopedic strain and long-term injury risk.

“Healthcare systems have been forced to choose between clinician safety, operational disruption, and significant capital investment,” said Gavin Philipps, Chief Commercial Officer at Egg Medical. “Now hospitals can protect their team without shutting down rooms for multiple days or spending hundreds of thousands on construction.”

Health systems are under increasing pressure to improve staff retention, reduce occupational hazards and maintain procedural throughput. A recent publication in JSCAI endorsed by multiple medical societies called for broader adoption of ERPDs to address these issues¹. Adoption is accelerating; the solution is currently installed in fifteen labs nationwide, with an additional eighty labs expected to be deployed by the end of Q2.

Principais Conclusões do Estudo:

Egg Medical Presents CRT 2026 Data Demonstrating a Responsible Path to Light Lead and Lead-Apron Free Protection

WASHINGTON, March 10, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Egg Medical, a leader in enhanced radiation protection devices (ERPD), today announced the results of a Late-Breaking Trial presented at the Cardiovascular Research Technologies (CRT) 2026 conference. The study, presented by Santiago Garcia, MD, of The Christ Hospital, confirms that the addition of the EggNest™ system reduces levels of scatter radiation to all members of the interventional team to the extent that users could do procedures safely without the use of lead aprons or wear ultralight aprons.

“For decades, the interventional community has accepted a trade-off: protect your long-term health from the effects of radiation exposure by wearing heavy lead aprons at the cost of damaging your back and joints,” said Santiago Garcia, MD, the study’s lead presenter. “This data proves that we no longer must choose. By using the EggNest system, we can provide the entire team with protection that is superior to the status quo, by either going apron-free, or while wearing aprons that feel like a light vest. This is about ensuring that the next generation can have healthy careers without the physical toll.”

The Key Study Findings:

  • Annualized collar dose (in mrem) over lead aprons is 25.5 for the primary operator, 9.8 for assistant, and 10.2 for the nurse. When combined with ultralight aprons, total annualized body doses dropped to 1.41 for primary operator, 2.1 for assistant and 1.0 for the nurse.
  • At these levels, a clinician would have to work for an entire career to receive the same radiation dose they currently receive in just one year under the standard of care.
  • The study confirmed that whether clinicians choose to go apron-free, or wear aprons that are 55% lighter than standard lead, the entire team remained below traditional exposure levels using traditional methods.

Modern labs are not one-size-fits-all. Under the banner of “Protection Is Personal,” the company is championing a responsible approach that allows clinicians to choose whether they want to go apron free.

“Our goal is to give clinicians a choice—but one backed by rigorous, published data,” said Gavin Philipps, Chief Commercial Officer. “Choice isn’t a weakness; it’s how responsible safety programs operate. By providing personalized data through live dosimetry, the EggNest supports apron-free or ultralight apron workflows where approved, rather than forcing a specific behavior.”
