بعد اقامت معرضين منذ عام 2020، يعود معرض صحراء X العلا في نسخته الثالثة في الفترة من 9 فبراير إلى 32 مارس 2024، حيث يعرض أعمالًا فنية معاصرة ذات رؤية، لفنانين سعوديين وعالميين، وسط المناظر الطبيعية الصحراوية الاستثنائية في العلا، التي تعد منطقة مهيبة في شمال غرب المملكة العربية السعودية تضم تراثًا طبيعيًا وإبداعيًا مغمورًا في إرث من التلاقح الثقافي.

وتحت عنوان ” في حضرة الغياب“، يولد معرض صحراء X العلا 2024 تساؤلات عميقة عن “ما لا يمكن رؤيته؟”. فغالبًا ما يُستهان بالصحاري، باعتبارها لا تعدو كونها مساحات من الفراغ تبدو صامتة بلا حراك، غير أن هناك ما هو أكثر بكثير مما تراه العين. وقد دُعي الفنانون المشاركون في معرض صحراء X العلا 2024 إلى استكشاف الأفكار التي تدور حول ما لا تراه الأعين ولا يكون جلياً في الواقع. وتشجيعًا على التفاعل مع الأشياء التي قد لا تظهر بجلاء، يقومون باستحداث تفاعلات جديدة مع المناظر الطبيعية، ويتخيلون وجهات نظر بديلة تنطوي على استحضار الآثار والأجواء اللامحسوسة للزمن والرياح والضوء وتدفقات التاريخ والأساطير المنسوجة في المكان.

وقد لعب معرض صحراء X العلا دورًا محوريًا في تمهيد الطريق لإقامة مشاريع أخرى من المقرر افتتاحها في العلا في عام 2026، وادي الفن، وهو موقع تبلغ مساحته 65 كيلومترًا مربعًا، من المقرر أن يصبح وجهة عالمية دائمة محددة وشديدة الأهمية لفنون الأرض. ويعد كل من معرض صحراء X العلا ووادي الفن مثالين على رؤية الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا تجاه الفن في وسط المناظر الطبيعية، التي تهدف إلى إتاحة فرص لا مثيل لها لتجربة الفن المعاصر في حواره مع الطبيعة.

فضلاً عن كونها موقعًا ثقافيًا تاريخيًا، تقع العلا في قلب المشهد الفني المزدهر في المملكة العربية السعودية. ويتركز اهتمام فنون العلا على إنشاء مكان ثري ثقافيًا للإقامة والزيارة، لإحياء التراث الغني للفنون في المنطقة وخلق فرص للمجتمع كي يعايش المجتمع المحلي الفن كمصدر للتعليم والإثراء من خلال إيجاد فرص العمل وتنمية المهارات.

ستكون النسخة القادمة من صحراء X العلا في مواقع مختلفة، تشمل صحراء وادي الفن ومحطة سكة حديد وحرة عويرض والمنشية، حيث تدعو الزوار للتجول وتجربة المناظر الطبيعية الخلابة والمتنوعة في أثناء تنقلهم بين الأعمال. وبدأ معرض صحراء X العلا على بناء قاعدة جماهيرية محلية ودولية على مدار السنين، بزيادة قدرها 53% لمتوسط عدد الزوار يومياً ما بين عام 2020 حتى 2022.

ويهدف معرض صحراء X العلا إلى تسليط الضوء على أحداث مهرجان فنون العلا. وخلال المهرجان، أكثر مما تراه العين، سيُقدَّم معرض للأعمال الحديثة والمعاصرة لفنانين سعوديين بواسطة متحف الفن المعاصر بالعلا. كما سيقام معرض لأعمال الفنانة المكلفة من وادي الفن منال الضويان في حي الجديدة للفنون. وسيغمر المهرجان الزوار في احتفال نابض بالحياة من الفن البصري، والتصميم، والسينما المختارة، والجولات الفنية، وأماكن لإقامة الفنانين. وسيعقد في مركز العلا الإبداعي “مدرسة الديرة“، ورش عمل على الحرف اليدوية مثل نسج سعف النخيل، والفخار، والمجوهرات، والهندسة، والأشكال ثلاثية الأبعاد، والمنسوجات، وغيرها الكثير.

تقول مايا الخليل، إحدى مقيمات معرض صحراء X العلا 2024:
“منطقة العلا صرح تاريخي. وتتألف من فترات زمانية ومكانية أبعد من أن تُتصور، وثمة رغبة في مقابلة ذلك بشيء يحاكيها في الحجم والتأثير. ولكن تظل الحقيقة أنه من الصعب على الجهود البشرية مضاهاة العظمة التي شكلها مر الدهور. لقد تحدينا الفنانين لتوجيه تصوراتهم الفنية في محاولة للتعرف على الجوانب غير المرئية للمكان بإجلال، وتناغم مع القوى، والإيقاعات، والعمليات التي تشكل المشهد الطبيعي بطرق غير محسوسة. وترسم أعمالهم وتستخدم الظواهر سريعة الزوال مثل حركة الضوء أو حت الرياح، فتقوم هذه القوى بتشكيلها لإماطة اللثام عن الأهمية الكبيرة للأشياء التي قد تبدو غائبة للوهلة الأولى.“

ويقول مارسيلو دانتاس، أحد مقيمي معرض صحراء X العلا 2024:

نبذة عن العلا:
تقع العلا على بُعد 1100 كيلومتر من الرياض، في شمال غرب المملكة العربية السعودية، وتتميز بأنها منطقة تجمع في رحابها تراثًا طبيعيًا وإنسانيًا استثنائيًا. وتحتضن هذه المنطقة الشاسعة، والتي تبلغ مساحتها 22561 كيلومترًا مربعًا، واحة غنّاء، وجبالًا رملية شاهقة، ومواقع تراثية ثقافية قديمة يعود تاريخها إلى آلاف السنين منذ عهد حكم مملكتي لحيان والأنباط.

يُعد الحِجر أشهر موقع في العلا وأكثرها شعبية، وهو أول موقع سعودي يُدرج على قائمة اليونسكو للتراث العالمي. والحِجر هي مدينة قديمة تبلغ مساحتها 52 هكتارًا، وكانت هي المدينة الجنوبية الرئيسية في مملكة الأنباط، وتتكون الحِجر من أكثر من 100 ضريح مصان على نحو جيد، بواجهات متقنة الصنع ومقتطعة من الأغطية الرملية المحيطة بالمستوطنة الحضرية المسورة. وتشير الأبحاث الحالية أيضًا إلى أن مدينة الحِجر كانت أكبر ملتقى جنوبي تتجمع فيها الإمبراطورية الرومانية بعد هزيمة الأنباط عام 106 ميلادية.

وإلى جانب الحِجر، تعد العلا موطنًا لعدد من المواقع التاريخية والأثرية الخلابة، مثل: دادان القديمة، عاصمة مملكتي دادان ولحيان، والتي تعد واحدة من أكثر المدن تطورًا في شبه الجزيرة العربية في الألفية الأولى قبل الميلاد، وآلاف من مواقع الفن الصخري القديمة والنقوش في جبل عكمة، ومدينة العلا القديمة، وهي عبارة عن متاهة بها أكثر من 900 منزل مبني من الطوب اللبن يعود تاريخها إلى القرن الثاني عشر على الأقل، وسكة حديد الحجاز وحصن الحِجر، وهما موقعان رئيسيان في قصة لورنس العرب ومعاركه.

نبذة عن الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا:
تم تأسيس الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا بموجب مرسوم ملكي صدر في يوليو/تموز عام 2017، بهدف حماية منطقة العلا وصونها، وهي منطقة ذات أهمية طبيعية وثقافية كبيرة وتقع في شمال غرب المملكة العربية السعودية. وشرعت الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا في وضع خطة طويلة الأجل تهدف إلى تحقيق تحوّل حساس في المنطقة، وهو ما يؤكد من جديد أنها واحدة من أهم المقاصد الأثرية والثقافية، وتُعِدُّها لاستقبال الزوار من مختلف أنحاء العالم. ويتضمن العمل الإنمائي الذي تتولاه الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا في هذه المنطقة مجموعة واسعة من المبادرات في مجالات الآثار، والسياحة، والثقافة، والتعليم، والفنون، مما يعكس الالتزام الطموح بتنمية السياحة والأنشطة الترفيهية في المملكة العربية السعودية، على النحو المبين في رؤية المملكة العربية السعودية 2030.

نبذة عن ديزرت إكس:

مايا الخليل
مايا هي منظمة معارض فنية شهيرة تتمتع بخبرة تزيد على 14 عامًا في صناعة الفنون مع الاهتمام بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا. وقد ولدت في بيروت، وتقيم في أكسفورد، بالمملكة المتحدة. وهي المديرة المؤسِّسة السابقة لمعرض “أثر”، وهو مساحة فنية معاصرة في جدة بالمملكة العربية السعودية، حيث نظَّمت العديد من المعارض التي عرضت أعمال الفنانين الناشئين والمعروفين من جميع أنحاء العالم. وكان من بين أعمالها التنظيمية البارزة معرض فنون جدة السنوي “21,39”. كما عملت مايا مستشارة فنية ومنظمة معارض مستقلة.  

مارسيلو دانتاس
مارسيلو منظم معارض ومدير فني حائز على جوائز ولديه 35 عامًا من الخبرة، ويشتهر بأفكاره المبتكرة متعددة التخصصات، واستخدامه للعلوم والتاريخ والتكنولوجيا لخلق تجارب معارض جذابة. 
وقد وضع دانتاس تصورات للعديد من المتاحف والمؤسسات الثقافية في جميع أنحاء أمريكا الجنوبية وآسيا بما في ذلك 
متحف اللغة البرتغالية وبيت اليابان ساو باولو، والمعارض الفردية المنظمة التي ضمت أعمالًا لفنانين مؤثرين

تقع العلا على بُعد 1100 كيلومتر من الرياض، في شمال غرب المملكة العربية السعودية، وتتميز بأنها منطقة تجمع في رحابها تراثًا طبيعيًا وإنسانيًا استثنائيًا. وتحتضن هذه المنطقة الشاسعة، والتي تبلغ مساحتها 22561 كيلومترًا مربعًا، واحة غنّاء، وجبالًا رملية شاهقة، ومواقع تراثية ثقافية قديمة يعود تاريخها إلى آلاف السنين منذ عهد حكم مملكتي لحيان والأنباط.

يُعد الحِجر أشهر موقع في العلا وأكثرها شعبية، وهو أول موقع سعودي يُدرج على قائمة اليونسكو للتراث العالمي. والحِجر هي مدينة قديمة تبلغ مساحتها 52 هكتارًا، وكانت هي المدينة الجنوبية الرئيسية في مملكة الأنباط، وتتكون الحِجر من أكثر من 100 ضريح مصان على نحو جيد، بواجهات متقنة الصنع ومقتطعة من الأغطية الرملية المحيطة بالمستوطنة الحضرية المسورة. وتشير الأبحاث الحالية أيضًا إلى أن مدينة الحِجر كانت أكبر ملتقى جنوبي تتجمع فيها الإمبراطورية الرومانية بعد هزيمة الأنباط عام 106 ميلادية.

وإلى جانب الحِجر، تعد العلا موطنًا لعدد من المواقع التاريخية والأثرية الخلابة، مثل: دادان القديمة، عاصمة مملكتي دادان ولحيان، والتي تعد واحدة من أكثر المدن تطورًا في شبه الجزيرة العربية في الألفية الأولى قبل الميلاد، وآلاف من مواقع الفن الصخري القديمة والنقوش في جبل عكمة، ومدينة العلا القديمة، وهي عبارة عن متاهة بها أكثر من 900 منزل مبني من الطوب اللبن يعود تاريخها إلى القرن الثاني عشر على الأقل، وسكة حديد الحجاز وحصن الحِجر، وهما موقعان رئيسيان في قصة لورنس العرب ومعاركه.

Raneem Farsi and Neville Wakefield will return as this year's artistic directors and the exhibition will be curated by Maya El Khalil and Marcello Dantas. Following two exhibitions since 2020, Desert X AlUla returns for its third edition from 9 February "" 23 March 2024, placing visionary contemporary artworks by Saudi and international artists amidst the extraordinary desert landscape of AlUla, a majestic region in north–west Saudi Arabia of natural and creative heritage steeped in a legacy of cross–cultural exchange.

Under the theme of In the Presence of Absence, Desert X AlUla 2024 asks "what cannot be seen?' Often dismissed as spaces of emptiness, deserts are rendered mute, static, but there is much more than meets the eye. Artists taking part in Desert X AlUla 2024 have been invited to explore ideas of the unseen and the inexpressible. Encouraged to engage with what is not immediately apparent, they stage new encounters with the landscape, imagining alternative perspectives that appreciate the imperceptible forces and atmospheres of time, wind, light, the flows of history and myths woven into the place.

Desert X AlUla is a collaboration between Desert X and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) established to advance new cultural dialogue through art. The first site–responsive exhibition of its kind in Saudi Arabia, it fosters exchange between artists, curators and international and local communities, shaped by a curatorial vision that takes the desert as its inspiration. Desert X AlUla has played a pivotal role in paving the way for the development of another initiative due to open in AlUla in 2026, Wadi AlFann, a 65 square kilometre site set to become a global destination for monumental site–specific, permanent land art. Marking a major milestone in the Royal Commission for AlUla's Cultural Manifesto, the epic, monumental scale of Wadi AlFann's cross–generational commissions will open a new chapter in art history, expanding and continuing for years to come. Both Desert X AlUla and Wadi AlFann are examples of RCU's vision for art in the landscape.

As well as being a historic cultural site, AlUla is at the heart of Saudi Arabia's burgeoning arts scene. Maya El Khalil
Maya is a renowned art curator that has over 14 years of experience in the arts industry with a focus on the MENA region. She was born in Beirut and is based out of Oxford, UK. She is the former founding director of Athr Gallery, a contemporary art space in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she curated several exhibitions that showcased the works of emerging and established artists from around the world. One of her notable curatorial works was the annual 21,39 Jeddah Arts exhibition. Maya has also worked as an independent art advisor and curator.

Marcello Dantas
Marcello is an award–winning curator and artistic director with 35 years of experience, known for innovative interdisciplinary practices and the use of Science, history and technology, to create engaging exhibition experiences. Pacific Green Concludes 2023 with Huge Growth in its Battery Energy Parks Business

Dover, DE, Dec. 14, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Pacific Green Technologies, Inc. (“Pacific Green”, OTCQB: PGTK) is celebrating a year of significant progress in its mission to build a global pipeline of grid–scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

In 2023, the business has hit a series of key strategic milestones for its international pipeline of BESS sites in development or construction, which now approaches 6 GWh of energy storage capacity.

For the UK pipeline, consisting of pioneering projects, Richborough Energy Park Limited ("Richborough"), and Sheaf Energy Park Limited ("Sheaf"), Pacific Green concluded agreements that secure the long–term future of these assets as an integral part of the UK energy grid.

In June, Pacific Green completed the sale of 99.8 MW / 99.8 MWh Richborough to energy transition fund Sosteneo for an enterprise value of 74 million (US$93 million). Richborough has now been handed over to optimiser Shell for trading across the entirety of the UK's energy markets.

In November, 249 MW / 373.5 MWh Sheaf reached financial close "" securing a combined 120 million from NatWest and the UK Infrastructure Bank and becoming one of the largest project–financed BESS sites in the world. Simultaneously, a 10–year optimisation contract was secured for Sheaf with leading energy provider SSE, and Pacific Green entered into a transaction to sell 100% of its shares in the project to Sosteneo for an enterprise value of 210 million (US$258 million).

Building on these achievements, Pacific Green has successfully expanded its BESS interests into high potential markets overseas.

In Italy, Pacific Green acquired 51% of the shares in five 100 MW battery energy parks from energy originator, Sphera Energy, with the balance of shares to be acquired upon the achievement of certain milestones by Sphera. Commercial operation will commence on these projects throughout 2026, with the total capacity up to 2.8 GWh.

In Australia, Pacific Green has entered into a pair of exclusivity agreements to secure land for two major battery energy parks "" the first a 1.0 GW / 2.0 GWh project in Portland, Victoria and the second a 0.5 GW / 1.0 GWh site in Limestone Coast, South Australia. Development is well underway for these projects, which will add significantly to regional BESS capacity in Southern Australia and are slated for commercial operation in 2026.
